The horn in the Focus is weak. It sounds more like an apology than a ‘MOVE B***** GET OUT THE WAY, GET OUT THE WAY B*****, GET OUT THE WAY’. ~Ludacris

it seems cheap. I was thinking if I were to do that, i would put it on a separate switch so that the stock one would remain in place and usable.
Second.... is it possible to hook a sub/amp up in the Focus without getting a new head unit? 2012 Focus SEL... looks like this:

If you find an early 90's Buick Park Avenue in a junk yard, grab the horn from that. My grandfather had one, and I swear it was a damn ocean liner horn. The sumbitch could wake the dead.

I never had an issue with my Focus (2014 SE Sport pack) horn. If I upgraded it, I would probably just splice the air horn into the existing horn circuit so that they both work from the stock button. Adding new horn buttons is a pain.
As for the amp, you can add an amp/sub to the existing head unit. Since there was a factory option for a sub there should be existing wiring for it. Replacing the head unit on any modern Ford is a nightmare, since it hooks into the car’s computers and making changes can screw up other things.
Good luck.

All car horns are jokes. The first thing you do when you buy any car is to stop at the car parts store on the way home and buy a Wolo Bad Boy and then pull the bumper and put in 140DB of air horn goodness.

the switch I would install would just be something in one of the blanks on the dash somewhere
so if i just plug the amp into the back it will work or do I have to play with the computer?

I’m sure even looking at the roof would promote rust.

Had the same issue with the horn on my Mazda. I improved the tone and volume by adding a second louder, deeper horn that’s the same style as the stock one. Just spliced it in and mounted it back to back with the stock horn. It’s a common mod and it makes quite an improvement without being as obnoxious as other options.
I’m on mobile right now, but I can give you more info later if you’re interested.

I never fiddled with it, but I know there are folks on the Focus forums who have and could likely offer advice. I’d try FocusFanatics.com

I was hoping to get to the local pick and pull yard in the spring and see if I could find anything stronger there. :)

The MJ has a set of horns from a ‘72-ish W150 (I think...) that I got from a junk yard for $10, added to a pair of factory XJ horns, a second set of which also was included in said $10 that will eventually find a home in the Niva I’m expecting, depending on what the horn in my XJ is like.

I feel the same way about my Genesis’ horns, so I bought some Hella Sharptones for like $25 on Amazon.

As for the head unit, it is ALWAYS possible to hook up an amp and sub. It really just depends on the level of work involved.
